This is the first of a long running series. This initial post is to essentially be a starting page for the guide and to also gush over these dolls.
It’s not exactly a secret that I adore my little Jun Planning Ball-Jointed-Doll AI.
They’re not made anymore, so you can’t buy them “brand new” but you can still find NIP AI dolls on eBay and Amazon.
They’re strung up and proper Ball Jointed Dolls. At 5.25″ tall, they fit in some of the smallest handbags and could even nestle comfortably in a cargo-pant pocket.
There’s only one drawback- these dolls aren’t made of resin. Meaning any groups that are resin only- you won’t be able to take part in them. It sucks, but the type of plastic or brand is apparently enough for some people to gate-keep ball jointed communities, despite a doll’s legitimacy. That said, odds are your local group won’t be that picky and the BJD Amino and many tiny bjd groups welcome them in. You’ll probably make so many doll-friends through these groups you’ll have your hands full.
That one limitation aside, they’re still probably the cheapest legitimate ball jointed dolls you can find affordably online at $40-$80 USD, and if you’re new to the hobby and on a shoestring budget, this is a great way to get into it to see if it’s right for you.
