A couple months ago I bought a tub shroom to prevent my hair from going down the drain after shampooing. Declogging hair is the worst. And as the adage goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
It was really expensive but as I wasn’t about to step foot into Walmart or Target, much less having the patience for Amazon, I forked over the $13 at my nearby Dollar General when I was in there getting odds and ends during the early days of the lockdown.
I would have considered a metal one, but I’m glad I opted for soft plastic. Not only is my tub drain a bit small and the flexibility proved useful, metal would have had a few seam points, making it harder to clean off.
I wash my laundry in a hand crank machine, and it needs a way to be drained. I usually sit and read a book while cranking(read agitating wash or rinse cycle) and let it drain in the shower. The apparatus is lightweight so I move it under the dining room table when I take my own showers.
It catches a lot of fibers. I should still use a Guppy bag for washing polyester, many of these little fibers are plastic too(and as many of us know, polyester microfibers are the devil). I’ve been procrastinating on looking into one of these bags for a really long time.
It does need to be cleaned off weekly, perhaps more often if you have more people in your household, and is kinda gross looking when it gets to that point.
A tip: Wait until right after you wake up- it will be dry by then.
Don’t click the more unless you want to see what it pulls off- hair(from shampooing) and fabric fibers! While it obviously catches a lot, I’m sure plenty of fabric fibers still goes down the drain.
I’m tempted to do more in depth reviews of things I already own about once a month. What do you think? Any products you’re really interested in? I’m still on a no spend year so I’m not about to buy stuff to test.
